Office Practice / MOS Instructor

Responsibilities

Prepares course outlines to instruct program participants in technical specialty and allied technologies.  Compiles and prepares all training materials in line with training requirements. Provides employability skills training with a focus on office skills, i.e. increased typing speed and accuracy levels, filing, operating a variety of office equipment, developing inter-personal skills and telephone techniques, etc.  Also, provides Microsoft Office XP skills training to participants so that both disciplines will enable them to competitively seek, obtain and retain a job in the office specialist occupational cluster, i.e. Administrative Assistant, File Clerk, Data Entry Operator, etc. with upward mobility.  Office XP training emphasizes Word and Excel skills.  Works collaboratively with staff to provide life skills training. 

Assigns and corrects lessons. Maintains attendance and classroom discipline.  Participates in staff meetings, conferences and training workshops.  Keeps abreast of technological developments through study and industry contacts.  Recommends curricula revisions to incorporate changes.  Presents classroom and on-the-job training according to curricula and program requirements.  Identifies gaps and areas for enhancement in course material and adapts accordingly.  Implements Quality Management standards according to requirements and performs other related duties, such as counseling participants in adjusting to the program activities, advising them on occupational opportunities and resolving problems.  Monitors activities and behavior of participants during program activities to ensure physical and environmental safety. 

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years training experience in secretarial skills,
  • Requires teaching experience with the disadvantaged population with multiple barriers,
  • Ability to prepare and teach adults to take and pass the Microsoft Office Certification examination,
  • Bachelor’s degree in the Business Education field,

Teaches A+ certification courses with emphasis on the Core and Operating Systems areas of expertise.  Designs curriculum with emphasis on accommodating students with varying levels of computer experience and knowledge.  Provides classroom and lab environments to support the course material outlined in the curriculum.  Utilizes a variety of teaching tools and techniques to establish and maintain a lively learning environment and heightened interest level.  Works individually with students to help them prepare for national certification examinations.

Basic Education Instructor

 

Responsibilities

Serves as the literacy advocate for the organization.  Assists in the development and delivery of the organization’s literacy initiatives.  Works in tandem with Skills Training Instructor to identify the core learning needs of the participants.  Utilizes PLATO Learning System, an Internet skills development course that is self paced and supports the program’s open entry / open exit enrollment, to improve participant’s grade level.   Provides participant with focused, GED preparation, targeting individual areas that need improvement.  Establishes criteria and tests participants in order to measure individual progress.  Records participants’ progress.  Evaluates participants’ progress in attaining goals and objectives.

Web Page Design Instructor

 

Responsibilities

Teaches web page design in a summer program for youth using Microsoft FrontPage and the HTML programming language.  Designs curriculum with emphasis on accommodating students with varying levels of computer experience and knowledge.  Provides classroom and lab environments to support the course material outlined in the curriculum.  Utilizes a variety of teaching tools and techniques to establish and maintain a lively learning environment and heightened interest level.  Works one-on-one with students to help them apply the techniques they have learned to projects in areas of interest to them individually.

Assigns and corrects lessons.  Maintains attendance and classroom discipline.  Participates in staff meetings, conferences and training workshops.  Keeps abreast of technological developments through study and industrial and/or professional contacts.  Recommends curricula revisions to incorporate changes.  Presents classroom and lab training according to curricula and program requirements.  Identifies gaps and areas for enhancement in course material and adapts accordingly.  Implements Quality Management standards according to requirements and performs other related duties, such as counseling participants in adjusting to the program activities, advising them on occupational opportunities and resolving problems.  Monitors activities and behavior of participants during program activities to ensure physical and environmental safety.

Case Manager / Job Coach

 

Responsibilities

Conducts comprehensive participant assessments, interviews and intakes.  Interviews potential participants to appraise their interests, aptitudes, abilities and personality characteristics for vocational and educational planning.  Develops and places qualified participants into full-time employment.  Coordinates services based upon assessment and planning.  Monitors individual participant activities aimed at attaining set goals and overcoming barriers.  Conducts frequent one-on-one participant sessions.  Conducts follow-up services with participants and employers.  Provides appropriate referrals, as needed. 

Maintains case management model with weekly documentation of participant progress.  Submits weekly case management report and monthly program report.  Assists instructors with lectures, testing and curriculum preparation.  Networks with employers and other external agencies to assist participants with employment opportunities and other services.  Assists participant with job search preparation, activities and placement.    Performs recruitment activities. 

Functions as an advocate between site personnel and participants to maintain open communications and achieve individual education plan and employment objectives.  Plans, develops and implements strategies for developing participants’ independent work skills.  Monitors activities and behavior of participants during program activities to ensure physical and environmental safety. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in the Social Services field,

  • Requires recruiting, counseling and job placement experience with the disadvantaged population with multiple barriers,

Responsibilities

Provides overall administrative support to OIC/DC staff; typing, writing, filing, faxing.  Serves as first line of contact for callers and/or walk-ins.  Takes and transcribes dictation.  Composes and types forms, letters, reports and other office documents and materials as required.  Answers phones; receives and directs calls, provides routine information to callers or refer callers to proper sources.  Coordinates meetings and/or staff appointments.  Receives and directs all mail.  Maintains and orders office supplies.  Responsible for all HR functions.  Executes all service and maintenance contracts.  Supervises payroll and employee benefits information.  Performs other related duties as assigned. 

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years experience,

  • Excellent telephone techniques and interpersonal skills,

  • Must have keyboard speed with a minimum of 50 wpm and 100% accuracy,

Web Page/Information Technology Instructor

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for training youth in information technology (computers), responsible for training youth in web page design and creating their own web page, records and maintains student attendance accurately, administers diagnostic test and grades students on achievements, responsible for assessing and evaluating youth areas of need and progress, prepares lesson plans regularly using appropriate teaching skills, prepares and conducts lectures and discussions to groups to increase students knowledge of vocational competence in the field of information technology, responsible for submitting a clear written lesson plan coupled with the ability to administer the plan to at risk youth, train youth the proper way to operate various software and technology equipment, train youth on software and create projects, ability to test, calibrate, and troubleshoot audio and related computer equipment; responsible for maintaining a safe and professional classroom environment, implement fun activities and workshops associated with technology, compiles and submits reports in a timely manner to Program Coordinator, participates in staff conferences and meetings on a regular basis. 

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Must possess the ability to train and teach youth in information technology

Responsible for training youth the basic fundamentals of radio and television production, records and maintains student attendance accurately, administers diagnostic test and grades students on achievements, responsible for assessing and evaluating youths areas of need and progress, prepares lesson plans regularly using appropriate teaching skills, prepares and conducts lectures and discussions to groups to increase students knowledge of vocational competence, and responsible for submitting a clear written lesson plan coupled with the ability to administer the plan to at risk youth. Compiles and submits reports in a timely manner to Program Coordinator. Plans, organizes and participates in staff development and team conferences, and maintains a safe and professional classroom environment. Implement fun activities and workshops associated with radio and television production. Thoroughly study program topics  prior to radio/television show times. Remain current on issues related to youth in the Washington  DC region. Lead and/or guide the work of youth during radio/television air time. Moderate panels on show discussions, and topics such as current affairs, and education. Ability to test, calibrate, and troubleshoot audio and related radio production equipment. Responsible for audio production and editing skills.  Operate and maintain proper levels and calibration of audio recorders, switchers, cameras and other recording studio production equipment.

 

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Must possess the ability to train and teach at risk youth in radio/television production.

Responsible for training youth the basic fundamentals of math and reading comprehension, records and maintains student attendance accurately, administers diagnostic test and grades students on achievements, develops and maintains student files, responsible for assessing and evaluating youth’s area of need and progress, responsible for submitting a clear written lesson plan coupled with the ability to administer the plan to at risk youth, prepares and conducts group workshops and discussions  to increase students knowledge of vocational competence coupled with its association to basic education , (for example:  workplace literacy and or life skills), implement fun activities and workshops associated with basic education, documents and submits daily attendance as required, compiles and submits reports in a timely manner to Program Coordinator

Plans, organizes and participates in staff development and team conferences, and maintains a safe and professional classroom environment. 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • A minimum of two years teaching experience coupled with the ability to conduct effective workshops (preferably in high school educational settings).

  • Bachelors degree in education and certification as a teacher is a plus.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Arrange testing and curriculum preparation on academic and vocational assessments.

Develop partnerships with businesses, communities, and other organizations to help meet identified career interests of youth ages 14-18. Enforce discipline and attendance rules. Assists with behavior modification, responsible for writing incident reports when needed, assists with collection and maintenance of records and relevant data. Responsible for case management which includes interviewing youth about career goals and educational aspirations, observing student performance, behavior,  social development, and observing youth during classroom and activities to gain additional information about them to  provide clear written case notes. Oversees job shadowing coupled with corresponding with employers, parents, and youth to assess the growth of the youth. Provides direct supervision to students, accompanies students on field trips and conferences. Develops and implements strategies for developing students’ independent work skills, oversees work training, provides instruction and assistance accordingly, monitors activities and behavior of students during program activities to ensure physical and environmental safety coupled with writing incident reports when needed. Provides explanation, example and instruction to students consistent with program objectives and standards, participates in staff conferences and meetings on a regular basis to receive feedback of youth’s progress. 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Must possess the ability to train and teach youth proper employability characteristics.

  • Must pass a FBI criminal background check (submit prior to hire).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Acts as liaison between coordinator and staff, coordinates special projects and takes action or refers important matters to director and coordinator. Complies attendance and enrollment rosters/reports and records info on spreadsheet. Report data daily to Coordinator and Director .Maintains and distributes files and office supplies to staff. Monitors supply inventory with close attention to distribution of supplies. Composes and types forms, letters, reports and other office materials as required. Prepares a variety of reports on student activities. Schedules and reschedules appointments or invitations.  Files student information, collates and duplicates information, utilizes information to compile and complete necessary reports. Checks details on documents, reports, forms, and claims for accuracy and completeness, prepares simple summaries of statistical reports. Delivers and pick-up various reports and or supplies. 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Completion of a high school diploma,

  • Type 35-40 wpm or better,

  • Highly proficient in the following software: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Outlook,

  • At least two years experience as a Office Clerk, Clerk-Typist or Secretary, or any equivalent combination of acceptable training and experience. Must submit a criminal background check.
