SCHOOL CALENDAR

OIC/DC has an open entry/open exit policy for classes. However, OIC/DC skills training programs are operated on a twenty-six (26) week to thirty-three (33) week cycles. The organization observes all federally declared holidays. School closings due to inclement weather conditions are announced on local radio stations. Staff, through telephonic communications with students, handles all other emergency school closings.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Subsidized Tuition

In order to be considered for admission at OIC/DC and receive a full educational scholarship, an applicant must submit the following documents to meet the minimum standards for enrollment:

  • Birth certificate for applicant and all dependent children
  • Social security card
  • Proof of District of Columbia residency
  • Evidence of income that falls within the federally approved income
    guidelines
    Evidence of five (5) attempts to secure employment
  • Evidence of draft registration if male and born on or after 1961
  • Resumè
  • A score at the fifth grade level or higher in reading and mathematics
    on OIC/DC administered CASAS test

Unsubsidized Tuition

Applicants who do not qualify for a full educational scholarship must meet the following criteria for enrollment:

  • Possession of a high school diploma or G.E.D. or evidence that
    supports exemption from compulsory high school attendance
  • Payment of full tuition costs at least one week prior to the start of
    a training cycle

ADMISSIONS PROCEDURES

Applicants who seek enrollment in training programs must:

  • Complete the OIC/DC application for training
  • Interview with the recruiter and job developer
  • Participate in a program orientation
  • Submit evidence of high school or G.E.D. completion, or higher
    postsecondary education
  • Score at the fifth grade level in reading and mathematic on the
    CASAS test
  • Review with the recruiter and job developer expectations of
    students by OIC/DC
  • Payment of tuition one week prior to the beginning of a training
    cycle unless the applicant qualifies for a full educational scholar-
    ship

PLACEMENT POLICY

OIC/DC does not guarantee placement of any student who completes a training program. However, OIC/DC assures placement assistance to all graduates of programs at the center. Job readiness training is an integral part of all programs. Job readiness training includes:

  • Classes on how to acquire and retain a job
  • Resumè writing
  • Interviewing
  • Dressing for success
  • Investigating employment leads

The job developer works with each graduate to secure a suitable occupation, based upon the student’s skills competency and interests. OIC/DC maintains a database of employers who have hired graduates of training programs.

ATTENDANCE POLICY

The total number of hours in A+ Certification and MOS Certification is 363 each. A student must earn a minimum of 75% of the total hours to comply with the attendance policy.

ACADEMIC STANDARDS

Student progress is measured utilizing assessment instruments developed and incorporated in each training program. They are assessed by standard measuring tools of achievable training objectives, developed by instructors and approved by the executive committee of OIC/DC. All students must successfully complete 100% of all training modules at a rate of 75%.

GRADING SYSTEM

Students are graded using the following grading system:

90-100 = A
80-89 = B
79-70 = C
69-60 = D
59 and below = Failure

GRADE REPORTING SYSTEM

Students are tested and graded weekly. Weekly updates enable instructors to quickly assess a student’s capabilities and deficiencies and to apply corrective remedies that will ensure progressive achievements and successful completion of training.

SUSPENSION

Any student who fails to maintain the minimum grade average of C will be subject to a period of academic suspension for a period of time or the duration of the training cycle.

ACADEMIC PROBATION

Students are expected to maintain satisfactory progress toward the completion of a program’s requirements. Students are required to maintain a C average or higher to be considered in good academic standing. Failure to maintain a C average or higher will result in academic probation. A student will remain on probation until the cumulative grade point average reaches the satisfactory standard of progress in a training program.

RE-ADMISSIONS

Any student whose training is terminated by him/her or OIC/DC must reactivate the admissions application. Suspended students must petition the President & CEO and Project Director at least one month prior to the beginning of a training cycle. Counseling will be required prior to re-entrance into a program.

GRIEVANCE POLICY

Students who wish to register a grievance must follow the procedures established by OIC/DC and submit all applicable paperwork. Grievances must be submitted in writing on the appropriate form to the authority specified in the procedures for filing a grievance. Students will receive orientation on how to file a grievance at OIC/DC.

CODE OF CONDUCT

OIC/DC has established a Code of Conduct for students that will be reviewed by the student and the instructor, outlining specific policies that require strict adherence for continued participation in any program operated at the center. Students must pledge to, abide by, and sign the code prior to engagement in a training program.

EDUCATIONAL COURSES AND OBJECTIVES

Students at OIC/DC are measured according to their achievement based on standardized test and classroom participation. Each student is required to achieve 75% of all course content. Students are evaluated on a bi-weekly bases.

ADVANCED STANDING

A student must meet the following criteria for advanced standing:

Test at the 75% level for course work in the area of study.

Evidence of current or prior employment in the field through written evaluation and description of duties. The evaluation must be submitted on the letterhead of the company.

A student who is placed in advanced standing will receive a reduction in tuition, based upon the number of hours awarded to him or her.

REFUND POLICIES

Refund policies will apply to students, based upon the method of tuition payments received for training. OIC/DC has two (2) policies for refunds: one that applies to students who receive full educational scholarships from training grants and one that applies to students who receive federal and state direct aid or who are personally responsible for their own tuition costs. OIC/DC has developed comprehensive refund polices germane to the types of funds used to cover tuition and policies will be reviewed with each student prior to starting a training program.

LICENSES

OIC/DC is licensed by the District of Columbia Licensure Commission. OIC/DC is a certified MOS testing site.
