OIC/DC’s In-School Youth Program is available for youth ages 16 to 18 who are currently enrolled in school. OIC/DC provides participants with instruction on employment related topics such as: job shadowing, life skills, employment readiness skills, career counseling, supportive services, and work experience. Participants also have the opportunity to utilize new skills learned in the classroom in actual work situations.
OIC/DC’s In-School Youth Program provides year-round services to high school students who meet certain eligibility requirements. The In-School youth program provides services to youth attending a traditional school system at the time of application.
Each youth is assigned an adult mentor and will receive:
•Tutoring •Study skills training
•Dropout prevention strategies •Leadership development opportunities
A Summer Work component of the year round program introduces younger youth to a paid work experience. The program focuses on developing skills and competencies valued in traditional work environments. OIC/DC’s In-School Youth Program promotes skills attainment, drop-out prevention, and high school graduation or attainment of a GED. Services include:
• Objective needs assessments
• Individualized service strategies
• Counseling
• Work readiness
• Tutoring and college preparation
• Leadership development activities
• Follow-up Services
